Black Like Vanilla created a playlist (below)… A soundtrack for the revolution (ASFTR) not THE soundtrack for the revolution. ASFTR is a unique blend of various black artists and musical genres curated to represent the ebbs and flows of Black Americans continued fight for the basic civil and human rights afforded to us in this country. This is by no means a comprehensive playlist and will continued to be updated. Various songs from ASFTR will be included in the featured song section on this website.
Today’s Featured Song is Bring Da Ruckus by the Wu-Tang Clan. Off their classic debut studio album Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), this song was included because it is truly one of the best ‘we are bout to start some shit” songs there is, which is why it is perfectly placed at the beginning of their groundbreaking album.
There is no mistaking what ‘da ruckus’ is or what will happen when you bring it and THAT is why it is fitting for the ASFTR. Enjoy!
Fun Fact: The iconic album cover for 36 Chambers almost never happened. Danny Hastings, the photographer who shot 36 Chambers album cover, revealed that when it came time to shoot the cover, a few of the group’s members didn’t show up. RZA was ready to cancel. Thinking on his feet, and remembering the first time he’d seen the Clan perform during the 1993 Jack The Rapper conference in Atlanta clad in hoodies and masks, Hastings suggested they wear masks and hoodies, giving the same “Wu-Tang Clan Ain’t Nuthing ta Fuck Wit” energy from their show and the rest is history.
